Current Status and Sustainability

Current Status

The value of limestone is still enormous, if anything, it has become even more so recently. The erosion of limestone hills across Malaysia as a result of increased limestone mining over the years has put the habitat of numerous plants and animals in danger. Three kinds of snails and a plant called Paraboea bakeri that can only be found in these hills, as well as the quarrying of Gunung Tenggek and Gunung Sagu, are under danger of extinction. All of these shouldn't happen because there are laws and regulations like the Explosive Act of 1967, Mining Enactment Cap 147, State Quarry Rules, etc. that are designed to stop things like this from happening. The current scenario may be the result of the inadequate enforcement of these regulations by businesses operating in such industries.

Sustainability

Although there is a lot of limestone in Malaysia, it is not a resource that can be used forever because more limestone is being mined than is being created. We may eventually run out of the resource and destroy numerous limestone hills, which would lead to the extinction of various flora and animals. This is due to the resource's rising demand in recent years and our refusal to practice restraint when mining it.
